Dressed in a black dress and beautiful rose mules, Olivia Lazuardy sat down with us to discuss life as a fashion blogger. Known for her classy looks and radiant smile, the Indonesian fashion blogger is on her way to stardom. With more than 200,000 followers on Instagram, she is slowly but surely becoming the fashion figure in the local scene.
Founded in 2013, OliviaLazuardy.com was anything but an overnight success. She started the blog because it was difficult back then to look for fashion inspiration in Indonesia. The fact that she had to look at Western figures, such as celebrities, was one of the reasons for Olivia to start her own blog.
Because it took Olivia a whole year before she earned money from her blog, she funded everything herself during that year. What was once a simple act of passion turned into a business and the Indonesian blogger never looked back. With the help of her photographer, videographer, and PR personnel, OliviaLazuardy.com continues to grow exponentially.
The fashion lover admits that her most memorable milestones are getting invited to international fashion weeks, where she can meet other fashion bloggers, influencers, and designers from all over the world. Among those figures, Chiara Ferragni remains Olivia’s style icon and one she hopes she can swap wardrobes with due to the Italian blogger’s abundant number of beautiful bags and shoes.
The graphic design major, who once dreamed of becoming a fashion designer, got her wish when she founded Calla Atelier in 2016. The brand was named after the flower—calla lilies—with the vision of floral motifs across the designs. And for now, her focus for the New Year is the growth of her brand, which we don’t think will be a problem. She aims to make Calla Atelier goes international and in regards to her content-creating, she hopes to publish more videos on her YouTube channel.
As we look forward to her successes this year, Olivia answered 10 questions we know you’d like to know:
Could you tell us a bit about your daily routine and how you plan your shoots?
I usually plan my shoots a month in advance. The location and the outfit usually depend on the concept I’m going for. As for my daily routine, it’s usually filled with brand meetings, planning for new posts, and working on my clothing line.
What is the biggest challenge as a fashion blogger?
It would have to be creating new content every day! Being original is hard, especially if you have to come up with something new on a daily basis.
What’s the one wardrobe essential you can’t live without?
Even as a fashion icon, you probably also have days when you can’t think of anything to wear. What is your go-to outfit on those days?
Definitely! I would go for a dress on those days. I don’t really wear jeans and I think it doesn’t take much effort to look neat in a dress.
So, you’ve recently launched your own clothing line, Calla Atelier. How do you manage both your blog and your line at the same time? Do you have a separate team? How does it work?
[Laughs] I have a separate team for Calla Atelier, but we work at the same office. So I allocate four days of the week for my office hours, both for the blog and Calla, and one day for all my shoots.
My career has become my life so it’s important that I take the weekends off to spend time with friends and family.
What’s the one tip you’d like to give to aspiring fashion bloggers and online influencers?
Have a taste. Style changes all the time but if you have taste then your content will be great. It’s easy to copy other bloggers’ style and look, but taste is hard to have because it’s from within.
How do you see the future of fashion blogging ad online influencing in Indonesia?
That’s the thing: I feel like online influencing is getting more common here because it’s easier to do whereas blogging requires written content as well. As for YouTube, it’s rare to see fashion channels out there in comparison with beauty channels. That’s actually one of my goals this year—to be a pioneer for fashion blogging and fashion channels!
What’s the one thing you wish other people knew about you?
I’m actually very bubbly! In pictures I might seem serious and image-conscious, but once you meet me you can actually see that I’m bubbly in real life.
What do you think has been the key to your success?
Persistence! It’s really difficult to pursue your dream without one.
Last, but not least, do you have a favourite quote you’d like to share with our readers?
It would probably be “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world” by Marilyn Monroe.
