Despite days of capricious weather leading up to the night and the infamous Friday traffic jams, the Indonesia Tatler Ball 2016 got off to a swinging start on November 11, blessed with dry skies and relatively empty roads. Distinguished by-invitation-only guests, comprising socialites, celebrities, captains of industry and other VVIPs, began arriving at the Raffles Jakarta hotel from around 6pm onwards for what would be a wonderful and magical night.
After posing at the many photo walls and being captured by Indonesia Tatler’s own photographers (and, of course, posing for numerous selfies all tagged with the official Indonesia Tatler Ball social media hashtag #IDTatlerBall2016), guests mixed and mingled in the spacious cocktail area, enjoying Martell cocktails, as well as mocktails, wine, and canapes.
And so it was that the evening got off to a flying start, with A-list guests enjoying sponsors’ booths and entertainment. Resorts World Sentosa, for example, had guests play a little memory game and try their luck spinning a wheel, while BWI Furniture encouraged guests to take pictures of themselves at their booth, which displayed a fantastic mandala backdrop designed in collaboration with designer Hans Susantio.
The crème de la crème of Jakarta—indeed, the country as a whole—were also serenaded by the talented Mia Ismi at the Mandiri Private Banking booth. Elsewhere, guests also got a chance to strike a pose at the stylish Hublot booth while marvelling over the company’s elegant timepieces, including a striking watch with a denim finish: the Hublot Big Bang.
This year’s ball also saw the official launch of “Tatler TV”, the latest product from Indonesia Tatler, an online channel focusing on video content creation, which can be accessed through www.indonesiatatler.com. From going behind-the-scenes at the latest fashion shoots to exclusive celebrity interviews to heading to the kitchens in the city’s best restaurants, Tatler TV brings the best of luxury to life.
In conjunction with the launch, a personal and cosy lounge courtesy of Fritz Hansen saw society’s crème de la crème flocking to the area to give interviews and send their personal anniversary messages. At the same time, a roving camera crew interviewed guests for Tatler TV, with the glamorous Kanty Widjaja serving as host and greeting and interviewing VIPs on the red carpet before they entered the ballroom.
While the guests enjoyed their cocktails and fun courtesy of the valued sponsors, the finishing touches were being made to the magnificent Dian Ballrooom, which was transformed into a venue of the utmost luxury for the Gala Dinner. Decked out in delicate purple hues and bathed in creative lighting motifs, the dining hall was most fitting for a night of scrumptious delicacies and epic performances.
Menu highlights included the finest Sturgeon caviar from Koroleva Caviar, slow-cooked Australian wagyu short ribs, and the most delightful light maple cheesecake. As befitting the occasion, only the finest of beverages were also on offer: Luxe-Drinks brought in a selection of its finest libations, all of which flowed throughout the night. The selection included Cognac from Martell, Pinot Noir from Pernod Ricard, Shiraz from George Wyndham, and vodka from Absolut Vodka. And it was all washed down with refreshing mineral water courtesy of Danone Aqua.
The event started off with a warm greeting by the emcee Aimee Juliette, followed by Millie Stephanie, CEO and founder of Mobiliari Group—publisher of Indonesia Tatler—who took to the stage to deliver a speech of appreciation to all the partners who made the incredible night possible. She also presented a token of appreciation to the sponsors.
With the formalities aside, it was time for the performers to take the stage. Regina Handoko kicked off the festivities with a virtuoso performance on the harp and an angelic singing voice that charmed the diners. The lovely Rany Moran then got the crowd off its feet and onto the dance floor with an energetic performance, followed by Illusionist Demian Aditya who capped off the evening’s performances with mind-boggling illusions.
When the clock struck 10pm, the second ballroom at the Raffles Jakarta opened its doors to a throng of socialites, celebrities and other social fixtures, all of whom came decked out in both formal wear and fun fashion for the after-party, which, in the end, was packed with more than a thousand people. As well as invitation-only guests to the after-party, diners from the Gala Dinner also joined in the fun.
As has become the tradition, the Indonesia Tatler Ball party was a celebration of heart-pumping music, delicious drinks, and a fantastic sense of camaraderie. The evening saw three of the biggest DJs in the country, DJ Shawn Muljadi, DJ Angger Dimas and DJ Quincy, spinning their tunes and getting the crowd onto its feet.
The spacious ballroom was no exception either. While the DJ booth took the centre spot, the exclusive bar was located right to its opposite: enabling attendees to enjoy the memorable night altogether. The Time Place’s VIP guests who attended the after party were also treated to sit and relax at its special corner while still enjoying what the celebratory night has to offer.
The after-party continued well into the wee hours of the next morning, when guests, tired but happy, having been treated to a night of the most indulgent luxury, faded away leaving behind only fabulous memories.
