Imagine the glory of the 1970s with its flared pants and skintight spandex as the club culture rose alongside the beginning of electronic and disco music genres. This lively and colourful vibe lives on in the brand new RM 71-02 Automatic Tourbillon Talisman collection. Two years after the launch of the black and white RM 71-01, this collection of ten models, each presented in a limited edition of seven pieces, is the cherry on top of Richard Mille’s development.
Designed by Creative & Development Director Cécile Guenat, the inspiration for this collection comes from the fun and original individual fashion and music styles of the disco era. Guenat has captured the play of light, sound and colour in a heady mix that is synonymous of the different layers found in the 1970s culture. On top of that, this collection also shows nothing less than extreme technicity and craftsmanship.
It took more than six months to validate the stones’ positioning to achieve the precise effect sought by Guenat. “The intense glamour of the disco era resided in a multiplication of colours and textures,” she said. “Working with the stones themselves proved to be a considerable challenge because stones of very similar hues can end up looking completely different depending on their size and the type of setting.”
All the models share the same CRMT1 calibre, which is Richard Mille’s eighth in-house movement but its first automatic tourbillon calibre. The calibre itself is a technical achievement, given that the tourbillon mechanism is in the heart of the machine at only 6.2mm thick and weighing just 8grams. This RM 71-02 Automatic Tourbillon Talisman collection comes with a complete series of bracelets specially designed for each model. The bracelets have two different shades with discreet vegetal motifs embossing on the 12th hour marker and geometric lines at the sixth hour. These patent leather are also metallic-treated to enhance the overall zest of the watches.
