We met with actor and model Mike Lewis during his work with us as one of the "muses" for October's breast cancer awareness campaign. In the flesh and in conversation, he is way more than just a good-looking celebrity; he is also a kind-hearted guy with real concerns about social issues. As we wrapped up our photo shoot, we settled down to talk. Mike revealed to us his love of being a father, his dream profession, his unexpected favourite place and more.
How would you define your personal style?
It is about freedom and it is always changing. And it's all about confidence: something that makes me feel good. I don't do it for others, I do it for myself.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
Being a father, naturally. Having a son who adores me and also being lucky enough to have all my Indonesian followers: fans who respect me. It means a lot to have their respect—that's a huge accomplishment to me.
What motto do you live by?
I had an accident in 2003, and at that point of my life, I knew that this life is not forever. Life can change and things can happen, but you have to be positive. You have to choose to be positive every day.
What turns you on creatively?
Talking to other people about what they're doing helps me to get some sort of idea about what's really important. And just talking and the social atmosphere around new people get my mind going, get the debate going, and get me thinking about what I want to do.
What is sexy to you?
Confidence. Always see within: it’s all about your inner aura rather than your physical appearance.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
From a very young age, I always wanted to be a professional athlete. I wish I could be, but I think I'm too old now [laughs].
What advice would you give to your younger self?
As much as you enjoy your life, you really should prepare for the future.
What are your greatest fears?
To be a let-down for my family. I don't know, the feeling that I’m not good enough.
Where is your favourite holiday spot?
It's very difficult to just pinpoint one, but if I had to pick, it's my own backyard—my backyard is Bali; every time I go there it's amazing. I love it.
